The Mekong Lodge is a peaceful country retreat, set in heart of the Mekong Delta, near Vinh Long. It’s a great option for two or three nights in the Delta, to explore the area and experience the authentic Vietnamese culture of this famous province.

After a two hour bus or taxi journey from Saigon, you’ll be transported by boat to the lodge, which is situated right on the banks of the great river itself. The comfortable air-conditioned rooms are all individual bungalows, each with terraces and outside comfortable easy chairs for relaxing and enjoying the surrounding lush tropical gardens. Some bungalows have their own little plunge pools, all have large Balinese-style outside bathrooms, with great touches such as wooden bathtubs shaped like a Mekong boat.

For as long as you choose to stay at the lodge, all meals and activities are included in the price. The day starts with an excellent and extensive buffet breakfast, and lunches and dinners consist of multiple courses, with genuine Vietnamese cuisine, fresh vegetables and fish in abundance.

There are activities planned for each day that you stay, although there is plenty of time for relaxing and exploring by yourselves, you don’t feel the pressured into a ‘set programme’.

We loved the meandering guided cycle rides along little paths crisscrossing the Mekong backwaters and villages, looking at the local agriculture and way of life of the people of the delta, visiting a temple, stopping off for a drink at a countryside café or taking a local river ferry. One bicycle ride finished with a river trip in a small boat for two or three people, paddled by a friendly local lady, through the little backwaters, perfectly idyllic.

A morning boat trip to the local floating market and a guided tour around a large fish and vegetable market was followed by a fascinating tour of a few small family run food producing “factories” – coconut candy, rice wine, rice popcorn, with opportunities to try and buy the produce. Our guide – each group gets their own individual guide for their stay – was knowledgeable and attentive. You’ll get the options of attending a short cooking class or fruit carving demonstration before your evening meal.

The Mekong Lodge is one of the best opportunities you’ll get to experience the Vietnamese Mekong Delta culture, people and scenery – we love it!  Please contact us for rates and availability.
